Big ideas. What you will study First year A typical first year may include: core topics in chemical structure and bonding, modern chemistry, fundamentals of nanotechnology, and the nature of science study of mathematics, or mathematics fundamentals in the biomedical nanotechnology stream study of mathematics and fundamental physics in the quantum nanostructures stream.
Second year A typical second year may include: core topics in chemical reactivity, organic reactions, spectroscopy and data analysis, and structure and characterisation study of biochemistry and molecular biology in the biomedical nanotechnology stream study of linear algebra and differential equations, and quantum concepts in the quantum nanostructures stream a selection of elective topics.
Third year A typical third year may include: core topics in separation science, applied spectroscopy and electrochemistry, introduction to polymer science, and the frontiers of nanotechnology study of protein to proteome and DNA to genome in the biomedical nanotechnology stream study of applied mathematics methods and quantum physics in the quantum nanostructures stream a selection of elective topics. Honours year A typical honours year may include: a major nanotechnology research thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research further development of professional skills, particularly those relevant to research and development.
Practical experience The degree provides you with practical experience that prepares you for the workforce. Take advantage of the science practicum available as an elective in third year. Get hands-on laboratory experience.
